The dispassionate agents gratuitously flashed their badges and a meaningless piece of paper. The yellow block letters on their jackets asserted their authority to raze cabinets shelves, yank out cables, fling pillows, and upend drawers like an indifferent act of nature. Order was Robbie’s lifeline, and it felt like someone had ripped the IV from his arm.
