the tight weave of dowdy muslin
preserves its true nature
and defies the possibility of curves
unseamed edges unafraid
frayed beneath unabashed staples
welcome interruptions of paint
threads dangle and dare to be pulled
I don’t mean to make meaning
I mean, usually,
the reveal
of layers
of errors
of process
is enough
but caste is on my mind
and these uncloying pinks
squaring off and overlapping
against inky strips of blackness
just might be
unraveling the baby doll experiment
and rearranging the hierarchy
